The Title X Family Planning Program is a federal program that provides affordable birth control and reproductive health care services specifically for low-income patients. The program funds nearly 4,000 service sites nationwide includes public health departments and non-profit health centers including Planned Parenthood. Title X funding is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Population Affairs (OPA) and serves approximately four million people per year. Basically, if a health center received Title X money from the government then it is against the law for them to give patients information about abortion. While health care providers are being forced to withhold facts about abortion care, crisis pregnancy centers* (CPCs) around the country are legally allowed to lie and trick people seeking abortion care. They do this by: Using similar names to real women’s clinics and locating themselves in close proximity to real clinics to confuse people in need of services. Share incomplete or inaccurate (fake) medical information with their patients. This includes lying to women about risk of abortion, the effectiveness of birth control as well as lying to women about far they are a long in their pregnancy Dress up in doctor and nurse clothing even though they are not real doctors or nurses Buy ads on google so when you search pregnancy help, they are the first ones to pop up. Offer free ultrasounds and pregnancy test to bring people. Many times the staff don’t know how to interpret the results accurately. Fake clinics do not offer any evidence based medical information and in fact actually count on lying as one of their tactics. They aim to prevent abortions by: not even mentioning abortion as an option, persuading people to choose adoption or parenting using shame and intimidation lying about safety of abortion lying about the cost abortion lying about legality of abortion giving patients fake ultrasounds and fake “due dates” calling themselves confusing names like “Pregnancy Care Center” or “Family Resource Center” standing outside of actual health clinics and ushering patients to the CPC.
